What is Kindness?
Kindness is a concept we all know and understand, however, at times find it difficult to practice depending upon the mood we are in. The definition of kindness is as follows:
the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate
Kindness is so much more than this. As I was walking through the airport today, I experienced a mindful moment where I noticed that so many people are going through more than I can imagine, for many different reasons of which I may not know.
The expressions on the faces of others we cross, the body language they hold when walking to their destination or standing still, the way their heart feels as they go through their day, we may have no clue as to whether they feel happy, sad, angry, impatient, uncomfortable, shy, etc. Sometimes we can pick up energetically through expression, body language, or verbal communication, that someone may be in a great mood or someone may be really angry. Other times, individuals hide their feelings so deeply, it is hard to understand what is going on in their world, as the individual may want to keep their experiences and feelings private.
We may bump into others who are angry and feel a speck of their anger that flies off into our energetic field, taking it personally for a moment, and then brushing it off. What we forget to do at times, is go a bit deeper and feel the situation from our hearts.
People hold anger, impatience, sadness for so many reasons. These could include the death of a loved one, losing someone dear to them, a fight with a spouse, work troubles, existential crises, internal doubt…the list is endless. Going about our day, living from a heart centered space can change the ENTIRE VIBRATION of a room, a person, a space. Through one individual, a ripple effect can occur so strongly, to affect the life of another, a perfect stranger.
How To Practice Kindness and Compassion
- Wherever it is you go, allow your heart to expand and create light and love around it.
- Before you enter into a store, a restaurant, any place that may be your temporary destination, practice expanding your heart. Imagine your heart vibrating light pink all around it, dancing through it. Begin to imagine this color grow in size, now radiating out and around your body, with the words of love and acceptance dancing around your energetic space.
- Continue to visualize this bright yet calm, pink color radiate outward past your body and into the space around you 10 feet. Take a moment to feel this. Feel how expanded and empowered you feel. Full of light, full of love, full of acceptance, allow this feeling to gently caress those around you who are strangers, or those who you know.
- When having a conversation with others, speak from your heart. Imagine your heart connecting with the other person’s heart, with white and pink light generating energy between the 2 of you with loving acceptance. Perhaps if you like something about that person that you notice, that which is genuine, you might share a kind statement with them.
- You would be surprised that even a “Hello” to a complete stranger, goes a long way, not only in your day, but in their day as well.
How Does this REALLY Make a Difference?
We all hold a certain energetic vibration to us. When we are sad we energetically display a lower vibrational frequency in our energy field that expands not only within us, but towards others as well. It is NORMAL to be sad, it is NORMAL to feel anger, however, it is our responsibility to learn to be aware that your emotions have an energetic charge can help us process our feelings more appropriately.
When we intentionally and mindfully create a loving energy to share with others and with ourselves, it can wash over others around us. In doing this, in bringing kindness to where there is darkness or doubt, in bringing love to where there is shame or despair, we can slowly being to realize the impact we have, on society as a whole.
