The Spaces In Between

What if you were to arrive at a place inside yourself, full of compassion, comfort, love, and acceptance? Many of us struggle to find this space, as we pressure ourselves to find or maintain a sense of happiness all year round. Happiness is a BIG word with meaning beyond what we truly think it is.

We all have moments of reactivity, confusion, anger, sadness, happiness, and euphoria. Each of these emotions cause our body to react in different ways. Anger, sadness, confusion, all result in our body feeling a dissonance in the energetic field within us. Happiness, euphoria, excitement, trigger our body to feel well and flowing.

With this being said, we all have a born right to feel all these emotions, just as we should. Anger is a beautiful messenger that protects us, sadness lets us know how much we care for something, and confusion lets us know we are curious to find out more. It is how we interpret these emotions and feelings that allows us to react in a way that feels good to our body and soul.

Happiness, excitement, euphoria, are all emotions that bring us a sense of joy, smooth energy running through our body. The interesting part of any live being, whether animal or human, is that we can at times attach ourselves to this so called “happiness feeling”, in turn, creating suffering for our bodies if we have difficulty readily attaining our happiness as we would like. It is an interesting contradiction, to think that we strive so deeply to find happiness, yet when we find it and latch on to it, not wanting to let it go, it creates a sense of suffering and pain if it is threatened to be taken away or we lose it temporarily.

As these thoughts are running in your mind, allow yourself for a moment, to tap into what you feel happiness means to you.

What areas of your life do you feel happy in?

What things in your life make you happy?

What about yourself makes you happy?

Who makes you happy?

The honest truth, or so I believe, is that happiness isn’t the response to a single question above that was asked. These are “happiness extras” found in the outside part of our world.

“Happiness is grown from the internal perception, in which you view your world and experiences.”

Happiness is not found in what you eat, drink, buy, do, know, shop, see. These items create “happy moments”, but they do not instill happiness. Happiness comes from your internal sense of self and how you perceive the world. What would it be like to bring a sense of compassion into every situation you experience. To practice neutral reactions to anger and sadness, to still be able to feel every emotion necessary, but not to feed these emotions into your body for a nutritional plan. To rather experience them as they are and slowly shift them out of your energetic field with perhaps, just a single breath. There are so many ways in which we can release what we no longer need or want, in a loving and kind way.

I welcome you to imagine a moment in your life, you no longer feel you need to hold on to. Possibly a grudge, a dispute, a wrong doing…just think about one and see how it makes your body feel. My guess, is that your body automatically begins to feel a sense of dissonance, discomfort, irritability, as soon as your mind goes back to whatever the moment may have been. This creates lower vibrational energy in your cells, in turn leaving your body open to being more vulnerable via ego, emotion, and even dis-ease.

With whatever moment you chose to bring up in mind, I invite you to practice this experience in letting go, if you feel you are ready.

  • Take a deep breath in through your nose, and exhale through your mouth, all the energy out of your chest until there is no air left
  • This time, take another deep breath in through your nose, breathing in a sense of love and pink light, hold for a moment, and exhale our through your mouth, imagining a darker color being released from your heart center and solar plexus area, to the wind around you in order to clear and transmute to a brighter color of your choice
  • Tune in to your heart. Whatever situation you brought to mind, imagine that situation in a picture with frame around it. Capture a still image of that moment, either in black and white or in color. Gently take the picture out of the frame and perhaps notice an album nearby where you can store this special picture with memories that are challenging to feel. Open your picture album. Begin to write a caption for this picture with positive affirmations. It may look something like this: “Even though this memory was difficult for me and I’m still [angry/sad/hurt/upset], I choose to release the discomfort this memory holds in my body and give it to the universe to transmute into love.”
  • Take a deep breath. Relax your shoulders as your breath out through your nose. This time I want you to look at the photo album with whatever it was that you wrote, insert the picture in the album, and say a well wish to your experience. Perhaps it could be, “It is now time to [release/let go of/clear/unburden myself of/delete] this memory for the time being and if I feel comfortable with it, forever.”
  • Take your photo album, close it, thanking it for the lessons the picture/memory/event gave to your for your grown and evolution. Sit the album in a space where you know it is safe, so if you ever need to return to it for any reason to see what the experience felt like to you energetically, you have it in your reach. Only you know where you have placed this special memory. It will remain there for as long as you like.

Happiness is what we make of it. Wherever we are in life, wherever we go in life, whoever we are in life, happiness is all subjective and perception based. In the search for happiness, be kind to yourself. It takes time to develop a practice that feels good, especially when we are dealing with our soul, spirit and, our ego. Send the ego love, while it is discovering what true happiness feels like. It will need lots of it, just as it deserves.

Which type of happiness will you choose?

With light & love.
